The omissions that cost money

A vague “materials” line, a service left out because it was agreed verbally, site access not priced… These details are what create price adjustments and tension after the client has signed.

  • Separate labour, materials and subcontracting when it helps.
  • State what is included and what is excluded (finishes, making good, waste removal).
  • Always re-check quantities taken from a quick measure.

VAT and wording

Vague wording makes VAT hard to justify if you are asked. Short but precise descriptions, aligned with the work you actually do, are safer.

If in doubt, document the nature of the work in the quote body, not in a comment that nobody will find later.

Checklist before you send

  1. Unit prices and totals add up.
  2. Validity and programme are stated.
  3. Payment terms and legal mentions are present.
